Sad tidings all on Erik Satie’s Death Day. On this day 95 years ago, Erik Satie took off from this Earth leaving behind…a mess, apparently! Though his compositions were simplicity itself, making you feel complex feels with just two notes per measures, his home was in shambles. He thought he’d left a composition on the bus, but it was found behind one of his grand pianos that were stacked on top of each other. Yes, you read that right. Two grand pianos. Stacked on top of each other.
In honor of his hot mess, because we are all a hot mess right now, here’s a #quarantinelife video and cover of his art song, “Elegie” with a synth twist.
Translation:
As if in a dream, I saw my happiness fade.
Cruel lies!
Instead of hope, I have suffering and pain.
In my foolish youth, I sang of love always,
But its gentle caress was erased in a single day.
I suffer my long martyrdom without cursing or sighing
The only remedy on earth is crying.
